Got An Unwanted Car? Learn The Different Ways You Can Get Rid Of A Junk Car

Posted on: 8 September 2022

If you have a vehicle that needs repairs that cost more than the value of your car, you may find yourself wondering what you should do with the car. You still may be paying to insure and register the car, and you could incur fines for having a non-operable vehicle on your property, so getting rid of the car quickly is important. Here are a few of the various ways that you can attempt to get rid of an unwanted car.

List Your Car For Sale

One of the ways that you may be able to unload an unwanted, wrecked or inoperable vehicle is to list it for sale. There are many mechanics out there, and they often take cars that need repairs and repair them themselves. Since they are not paying for labor, it may make sense for them to fix a car up, and then drive it themselves or resell the car. You can put a for sale sign on the car or put it up for sale on online classified sites to find potential car buyers

Donate the Car to a Charity

Another way that you may be able to get rid of a junk car is to donate the car to one of your preferred charities. Many charitable organizations will accept cars, and in return, you may get a tax write-off. However, not every charity will accept damaged or inoperable vehicles, so talk to your preferred charity to find out what their requirements may be when donating a vehicle.

Sell the Car to a Junkyard

A junkyard, also referred to as a pick-and-pull lot, buys used and unwanted vehicles. The junkyard then puts the unwanted cars in their yard and lets people take off any operable parts, which is why they are called pick-and-pull lots. However, a junkyard may not always take your vehicle, depending on its current inventory and space in its yard.

Find an Unwanted Car Buyer

The last option for getting rid of a junk car is to find an unwanted car buyer, also referred to as a junk car buyer. Junk car buyers buy junk cars and typically recycle them for their metal content. As such, they will buy cars that may otherwise be hard to get rid of in other ways.

There are many routes you can take as you look to get rid of an unwanted vehicle, including putting the car up for sale, donating the car to a charity, selling the car to a junkyard, or finding an unwanted car buyer. If you are in a hurry to get rid of the car or do not want the hassle of trying to sell it, an unwanted car buyer is the fastest route to go.
