Is Your AC Not Getting Very Cold? Try These 5 Things

Posted on: 18 August 2020

Is the hot summer heat getting to you, and your car feels like a sauna? If so, it will help to try the following things to get the air to feel cooler.

Close Vents Not In use

Your vehicle has multiple vents, and they are likely all open. However, if you're the only one that is driving then the vehicle is having cold air pumped into places where nobody is sitting. By closing the air vents in the car, you'll notice that more air pressure is redirected towards the vents that are open. This will make it feel colder to you in the driver's seat.

Park In The Shade

If you have the option to park in a shady spot, it will definitely result in your car feeling cooler when you get into it. This will make the air conditioning feel colder as well as that cool air mixes with air inside the vehicle that is already cooler. You'll notice an immediate effect on your comfort when you get into your vehicle.

Avoid Accelerating Too Quickly

The power for your air conditioner comes from the engine. When you accelerate quickly, you are taking power away from the air conditioner and putting it towards other essential parts that are needed to accelerate. Some modern cars even cut off power to your air conditioner when accelerating. This means you are better off maintaining your speed on a hot day so that the air conditioner has the ability to work.

Make Sure You Have Enough Refrigerant

Your air conditioner requires refrigerant, which absorbs the heat from the air and causes the air to feel cold. If there is not enough refrigerant in the air conditioner's system, the air is going to feel warm as a result because the heat will not be removed. It is worth checking to see if the air conditioner has enough refrigerant to do its job.

Force The Warm Air Out Of The Car

It can help to actually let the warm air out of the car before you get into it. By bringing down the temperature, the overall air quality will feel cooler. This can be done for driving for a bit with the windows down to force air out of the side windows. Then close the windows and turn the air conditioner up.

If you are trying these tips and the air conditioner is still not feeling very cool, it may be time to have it repaired. Reach out to a local auto shop that specializes in auto a/c repair
